Chancellor and Business Secretary write open letter to businesses

The Chancellor and Business Secretary have written an open letter to businesses detailing the Government’s Plan for Growth. The letter sets out the key pillars of investment that the Government will focus on as we recover from the pandemic to create new jobs and drive forward its priorities.

The Plan for Growth looks ahead at “building on the best of the Industrial Strategy set out in 2017” and refreshing the Government’s long term strategy for growth in a new economic landscape, including the pandemic, our net-zero target and our new place on the world stage as an independent nation outside the EU.

Ahead of the second meeting of the Build Back Better Business Council, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“With great progress being made on our vaccine programme and our roadmap underway, 2021 can really be the year of economic recovery. Our Plan for Growth sets our path to invest in infrastructure, skills and innovation to build back better, whilst harnessing the strengths, resilience and creative spirit we’ve seen from businesses over the past year, so we can level up opportunity and prosperity across the country, eliminate our contribution to climate change and forge ahead as a truly Global Britain.”

Delivery of SELEP’s Economic Recovery and Renewal Strategy – Working Together for a Faster, Smarter and More Sustainable Economic Recovery – will align with the priorities set out in Government’s economic strategy ‘Build Back Better: Our Plan for Growth.

It sets out how we will work with partners to support a path to recovery and renewal in the short to medium term. It also outlines the clear opportunities and needs of the SELEP area and the actions that we will take to drive the South East into new economic growth as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic and establishes new ways of working internationally following the EU Transition.
