A new ESF call has been launched this week looking for projects that use online learning and virtual reality to raise awareness of opportunities in priority sectors and offer online learning modules. These projects are to be developed in partnership with local employers and skills boards.
There are huge opportunities for unemployed people to move into employment and for employed people and SMEs to upskill and retrain in the SELEP area, given the right support and knowledge.
Productivity and growth is being hampered by the lack of awareness of opportunities in key sectors, access to training and untapped economic activity is restricting growth.
Virtual reality software for logistics
This should build on existing best practice in the area such as the virtual reality software for logistics developed by the Essex Employment and Skills Board. Content when developed should be easy to access across the SELEP area and beyond.
Raising awareness of sectors and job opportunities
The ambition is to raise awareness of sectors and jobs now and in the future and also to open up flexible training opportunities to greater cohorts such as those in rural areas, those in prison, those with transport challenges or those in work who wish to undertake training flexibly.
This call is intended to equip people for this growth and skills and to ensure that training is accessible, industry led, locally relevant and dynamic. The ambition for utilising virtual reality and online learning is twofold;
- firstly it helps to raise awareness of the jobs available now and in the future and
- secondly it opens up flexible training opportunities to greater cohorts such as those in rural areas, those in prison, those with transport challenges or those in work who wish to undertake training flexibly.
SELEP would like to establish local, relevant content in-keeping with the priorities set out in the skills strategy. Such a project is intended to establish SELEP as an area of expertise.
