Chairman & Vice Chairs

The South East LEP is governed by a board of 28 members supported by a small secretariat team and partners and organisations throughout the SELEP area.

Christian Brodie

Christian Brodie was appointed Chair of the South East LEP following the March 2016 Strategic Board Meeting. He has high-level experience in business, international finance, higher education and working closely with Government departments.

Christian is the Chair of the Student Loans Company.  His previous Chair roles include the Public Chairs Forum, Pentathlon GB, the Council of the University of Sussex, the Regulatory Partnership Group for Higher Education and the Council of UCAS.

As well as holding directorships in a number of private companies, he is a member of the Greater Anglia Stakeholders Advisory Group. He also serves on the Grants Committee of the Wates Foundation, his family charity supporting projects principally in London and the South East.

After reading law at Oxford University, Christian took on legal roles in corporate finance in the City of London and on Wall Street. He subsequently joined the financial services industry where his career progressed to Vice Chairman of UBS Investment Bank, reporting to the Chief Executive.

As Chairman of SELEP, Christian receives an allowance of up to £20,000 per annum plus expenses.

Christian is the SME (small and medium sized enterprises) representative on the Board.

Graham Peters DL

Graham Peters has a business background in small-scale commercial and residential property development and advice. He has been involved in economic regeneration especially of the rural areas of East Sussex for 15 years.

Graham is the Chairman of Team East Sussex, the Federated sub board of SELEP, Chairman of the East Sussex Rural Partnership, sits on other not-for-profit boards, including as a director of Woodland Enterprises Ltd and Rother Valley Railway Ltd, and was the High Sheriff of East Sussex 2013 – 2014.

George Kieffer

George Kieffer is a former banker with a number of business interests. He is Chairman of the Haven Gateway Partnership and Chair of Estuary Housing Association. He is a LEP representative on the National Programme Monitoring Committee for European Structural & Investment Funds and chairs the South East sub-committee. George is also a member of the University of Essex Enterprise and Industrial Advisory Boards.

Geoff Miles DL

Geoff Miles chairs the Kent & Medway Economic Partnership, the Kent & Medway Business Advisory Board and The Shepway Business Forum. In July 2009, he received an award for outstanding Contribution to the Business Community of Kent at the first Kent Excellence in Business Awards. In 2011 he was appointed Chairman of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards.

Mr Miles has worked as a producer and director in television for over 30 years; and is the Managing Director at Maidstone Studios
